Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here…

A parent’s wholeness is their child’s greatest inheritance.

You’ve done the work.

You’ve read the parenting books. Taken the courses. Sat in the Bible studies. Tried the strategies. You know more than your own parents knew, and you’re still standing in your kitchen at 7pm, wondering why nothing is working the way the books said it would.

You’re not failing. You’re not missing something obvious. You’re missing the layer underneath: the developmental story that explains not just what your child is doing, but why, and what that has to do with you.

That’s what this is for.

I’m Bethany Heyne

…author, speaker, and parent educator with a master’s degree in psychology and a specialization in child development (oh, and a pharmacist!)

I founded The Kairos Bridge to do one thing: make the science of human development accessible to the people who need it most. Parents, educators, and the adults who are parenting the parts of themselves left behind, while parenting their own children, too!

My framework, Notice It · Name It · Nurture It, is the spine of everything I teach. It’s not a behavior management system. It’s a way of seeing.

And then one day, God invited me into fiction.

Crazy! I know. I’m a scientist. I write research and nonfiction. But in an act of obedience, I opened up Dabble, and the words just poured out.

Now, The Lost Series is the thing I love most to write. These are stories about women who know God is calling them into more, into better, but they’re stuck. Only through surrender do they come to realize what false beliefs the world had whispered to them, and that God wants to rewrite those lies through His wonder-working, transformative power.

When I write, I laugh, I cry, I get nervous, I get excited, and the Lord takes me on the journey right alongside my characters.

I came to love fiction because I am watching God use story to reach places education, information, and self-help alone simply cannot.

And I don’t want you to wait until each book releases to go on that journey. I want you in it now, walking daily life alongside the characters, the way we walk daily life alongside each other.

That’s what Heart Shapers, Legacy Makers is. Story and science and Scripture, woven together week by week, because I don’t want you to have to wait until each book is released. I want to invite you into the daily lives of my fiction characters as they journey through God’s beautiful plan for them.

My hope is that you’ll let Him take you on the same journey too.

What is Heart Shapers, Legacy Makers?

This is a weekly Substack for parents, educators, and anyone on the journey of becoming more whole.

Every issue is built from three threads woven together:

Story: A real, honest narrative. The kind you recognize yourself in before I name what it is.

Science: The developmental research that explains what’s actually happening beneath the surface of the moment.

Scripture: Not as a tidy moral. As a living lens — the kind that holds complexity without collapsing it.

The result is something that isn’t a parenting blog, a devotional, or a psychology explainer. It’s all three, and it ends in practice.

Because understanding without action is just interesting. And you came here for more than interesting.

The Work Behind It

Here’s what I bring to every issue:

A master’s degree in psychology, with a focus on child development, so the science I share has a real foundation, not just a trending hashtag.

Years of work with parents, schools, and organizations through The Kairos Bridge, I’ve taught these frameworks in classrooms, boardrooms, and living rooms. I know what lands and what doesn’t.

A clinical and pharmacy background, which means I read research carefully and simplify complexities without losing the core essence.

A novelist’s instinct for story, because the best science in the world doesn’t change anyone until it’s housed in a story they can feel.

And my own formation, which is ongoing, imperfect, and the most honest thing I bring to the page every week. My best learning happens within my home, around the dinner table, and in the car with my son and my three bonus kids.

What’s Personal…

I didn’t come to this work from the outside.

My own reckoning with formation, the places where my history shaped my parenting before I had language for what was happening, is what built The Kairos Bridge. My faith, my psychology training, and my story are not three separate things. They are the same thread, and this newsletter is where I pull it.

I live in San Antonio, Texas. I’m a mother. I believe that wholeness is contagious — that when one person in a family starts to become more whole, everyone around them feels it. And I believe that’s worth writing about every single week.
